Plea deal announced for driver involved in man's death

HAMILTON COUNTY, Ohio — Ohio prosecutors announced a plea deal on Monday for a man accused of vehicular homicide in the 2011 death of a former Anderson man.

Paul Lallier, 64, of Hamilton, Ohio, is also charged with obstructing justice, both Class 1 misdemeanors in Ohio, for his part in a March 28, 2011, automobile accident, which claimed the life of 22-year-old Dylan Morrison, originally of Anderson. If convicted of all charges, Lallier faces the possibility of a year in prison.

The plea deal was announced in a press release from Hamilton County, Ohio Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters on Monday.

According to the release, the information was filed with the county clerk of court Monday morning and assigned to Judge Robert Ruehlman. A hearing will be set for Ruehlman to accept Lallier’s plea. The defendant has already signed and submitted a written guilty plea.

Lallier was employed as a commercial truck driver for the Burkett Trucking Co. in Hamilton, Ohio. On the morning of March 28, 2011, Lallier was driving a triple axle semi truck that pulled a multi-wheeled dump trailer equipped with two full-time axles and two drop axles.

At approximately 9:15 a.m., Lallier was driving his truck in the northbound lanes of I-75 around the 12.5 mile marker in Lockland, Ohio. Morrison, a University of Cincinnati student, was driving on I-75 in the opposite direction. As the two vehicles were approaching each other from the opposite direction on the expressway, one of the drop axles on the trailer dropped and a wheel on the dump trailer fell off and bounced or rolled across several lanes of traffic.

The wheel then struck the concrete median and became airborne and flew into the southbound lanes of travel. The wheel crashed into Morrison’s windshield. The wheel bounced off his windshield and struck another vehicle as well.

Morrison died at the crash site.
