---- — ANDERSON — Police are searching for the suspect in a stabbing that hospitalized a woman Wednesday night in rural Anderson.

According to Madison County Sheriff's Department Major Brian Bell, the woman was stabbed multiple times, at least once on one of her hands, at about 6:30 p.m. by an intruder in her home in the 5900 block of West County Road 250 South, midway between Anderson and Lapel.

Officers who arrived on the scene created a perimeter to search for the suspect. K-9 dogs assisting at the scene tracked the suspect for a short distance but eventually lost the scent. Bell said he believes the man got in a vehicle.

The initial description of the assailant is a white male, roughly 50 years old with salt and pepper hair and wearing a black jacket. The victim told police she doesn't know the man.

Bell said the case is still under investigation.

No information was immediately available on the woman's condition or where she was hospitalized.
