---- — ANDERSON — An accident involving alcohol left two, including a pregnant woman, injured this weekend in a single-vehicle accident.
The crash occurred at 2:17 a.m. Sunday in the 4400 block of County Road North 200 West.
According to Madison County Sheriff Ron Richardson, Ivan T. Thompson, 28, of Elwood, was driving a 2001 Dodge Neon north on 200 West, in the 3800 block, when he hit a mailbox with his exterior rearview mirror.
His passenger, Candice A. Juday, 23, of Alexandria, reportedly urged him to stop but Thompson kept driving.
Richardson said the car then went off the east side of the road and struck a utility pole head-on, breaking it off about 2 feet from the ground.
Thompson's vehicle spun and ended up in a ditch on the west side of the road facing south.
Richardson said there was extensive damage to the front end of the vehicle, but that Thompson and Juday were wearing seat belts.
Juday is eight months pregnant and was taken to Community Hospital in Anderson via ambulance for complaints of pain to her head, hand and abdomen.
With alcohol use suspected, Richardson said, deputies began to transport Thompson to the Sheriff's Department.
He then began to complain of pain to his hip and side and was taken to St. Vincent Anderson Regional for treatment before being driven to the Sheriff's Department for a breathalyzer test.
Richardson said Thompson had a blood alcohol content of 0.13 and was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
