Vehicles collide trying to avoid stalled traffic

ANDERSON, Ind. — A stranded motorist inadvertently caused a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 69 Sunday evening.

Madison County Sheriff Ron Richardson said the 5:43 p.m. accident near mile marker 223 occurred when Jennifer L. Hegeduis, 38, of Zionsville, swerved into the right northbound lane, trying to avoid stalled traffic in the left lane caused by a stranded motorist.

Eric M. Clark, 39, of New Haven, was driving a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica in the right lane and rear-ended the Hegeduis' 2006 Honda Odyssey, Richardson said.

She went off the side of the road, causing her vehicle to overturn. Clark ended up in the median on the ride side.

Hegeduis had swelling of the right hand and was taken to St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital.

Her passengers, Janice Lloyd, 63, and Miles D. Hegeduis, 12, suffered minor injures. Lloyd had a complaint of pain and Miles had a bruise on his head, Richardson said.

Clark's passenger, Sherri L. Roe, 38, had a broken right ankle while Ethan T. Roe, 8, complained of pain.

The Madison County Sheriff's Department closed a portion of the right lane down while an investigation was completed.
