ANDERSON, Ind. — A Chesterfield man was seriously injured in an accident involving a moped and a sport utility vehicle Monday night.

According to Anderson Police Department spokesman Detective Joel Sandefur, Douglas Clendenin, 44, was driving a 1994 Honda moped eastbound on 38th Street in Anderson when Rhonda Roberts, 45, of Muncie, driving a 1999 GMC SUV westbound, turned into his path.

The accident occurred near the intersection of Rangeline Road at 7:11 p.m.

Sandefur said Clendenin collided with Roberts’ vehicle and received a severe head injury. He was not wearing a helmet, he added.

Clendenin was transported to a local hospital before being airlifted to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, where he was listed in serious condition.

Roberts was not injured, Sandefur said.
