Police search for 3 men after shots fired at house

ANDERSON, Ind. —

Anderson police searched for three armed men who fired on a Sixth Street house at 1 p.m. Monday.

Sgt. William Casey of Anderson Police Department said no arrests had been made after three men dressed in black took off in a light purple PT Cruiser.

Casey said the victim, who lives on the 500 block of East Sixth Street called police when a suspicious vehicle pulled into his driveway. He said he saw two unknown men get out of the car, one came to his front door and knocked and the other went to his neighbors' house.

After no one answered the door, the men got back in the car before climbing back out and going to the victim's back door. Casey said the home owner's two pit bulls may have deterred the individuals from trying to force entry into the home.

The victim told police that the men got back in the car and headed east. As the car left, a rear window was opened and four shots were fired at the house. Casey said some of the casings were collected at the scene and he believes they were high-caliber bullets.

Then, 40 minutes later, APD received another call from an individual in the 1800 block of Drexel Drive. He told police he was in his backyard and saw two black men attempt to get in the back door of his neighbors' house. After discovering it was locked, they drove away in a "light colored PT Cruiser."

"We believe this is the same vehicle that was on Sixth Street 40 minutes earlier," Casey said.

Casey said they believe the two incidents are related but did not offer a suggestion for a motive or why the men decided not to try and break the door down.

Despite alerting Indiana State Police and the Madison County Sheriff's Department, no cars matching the correct description were found. Anyone with information is advised to call Crime Stoppers at 649-8310.
