Sheriff's Department arrests 2 suspects in drug bust

PENDLETON, Ind. —

PENDLETON — Two brothers were arrested Tuesday afternoon after police found 4 pounds of marijuana and nearly $1,500 in cash and various paraphernalia in their home.

Austin Lawton, 18, and Michael Lawton, 31, were arrested on Class D felony charges after Madison County Drug Task Force officers and other units raided their home in the 100 block of North Jamalee Way near Pendleton, according to Sheriff's Department Maj. Brian Bell.

Members of the Drug Task Force, Madison County K-9 Officer Justin Weber and partner Diesel, patrol units and Bell went to the Lawtons' home in the Falconhurst subdivision on Tuesday to serve a search warrant. Officers needed to make a forced entry to get into the home and the men were taken into custody, Bell said in a press release.

"They wouldn't open the door, so we needed to kick it in," Bell said.

The men apparently live in the home with their father, according to Bell, though they were the only people in the home. One was found hiding upstairs and another in the home's garage.

According to public records, neither man has a criminal record, but Bell said the Drug Task Force had developed enough information to obtain the warrants for the home.

According to Bell, the marijuana was found mostly in one-pound bags and had not been broken down for use, a common indication that the drug was going to be used for selling. There was no indication the men had been growing the weed at the home, he said.
