Affidavit: Elwood man had child pornography on multiple storage devices

Affidavit: Images found on multiple storage devices

ANDERSON — A man who has been wanted since August on charges of possession of child pornography was arrested Sunday.

Charles B. Evans, 45, of Elwood, was allegedly found with child porn on several storage devices, marijuana and smoking devices in his Elwood home in March 2013. After a lengthy investigation by Indiana State Police, a warrant was issued for Evans in August. According to arrest log records, Evans was brought to Madison County Jail from Hughes Springs, Texas, a small city about two hours east of Dallas.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the investigation of Evans dates back to January 2013, when a woman came to police with a digital storage card she claimed was Evans' and had child pornography on it. Investigators examined the card and found it had more than 400 images believed to be child pornography. Some of the images contained children believed to be 5 or 6 years old.

Other evidence on the card, including an email address, traced it back to Evans.

Investigators executed a search warrant on Evans' Elwood home in March 2013, where they found several computers, digital storage cards, 38.5 grams of marijuana and several controlled substance-smoking instruments. More child pornography was found on one of the computers and one of the storage cards.

At the time, Evans agreed to speak to police and admitted he had "a problem," according to the affidavit. He allegedly admitted the pictures were his and described the times he downloaded them to investigators.

After completing the investigation, authorities issued a warrant for Evans' arrest on Aug. 9, and prosecutors filed an intent to seek an habitual substance offender status for Evans in the case. According to Madison County Jail records, Evans was still in custody on $15,000 bond, as of Monday night.
