Police arrest one on gun charges, two suspects still at large

ANDERSON — Two suspects from a southwestside neighborhood incident on Sunday night were still at large Monday.

According to Anderson Police Department spokesman Bill Casey, Tony L. Thompson, 28, of Anderson, faces charges of receiving stolen property and serious violent felon in possession of a firearm for an incident Sunday at about 8 p.m., when he and two other men allegedly waved guns during a fight. No one was shot during the incident in the 2400 block of of Fairview Street.

According to Casey, dispatch received a 911 call from witnesses saying three men were seen with guns in the area. When police arrived, they found and arrested Thompson, but the two other suspects fled on foot. After hours of searching the area around Fairview Park Apartments, officers were unable to track down the men.

Joining Anderson police in the search were Madison County sheriff’s deputies and Indiana State Police.

Witnesses told police that Thompson and two other men were arguing about a domestic incident, but the exact nature of the fight was unclear. Thompson allegedly threw his gun, a .45-caliber pistol, into a nearby van as police arrived. Officers discovered the pistol was reported stolen in Delaware County last month.

According to Casey, police were still searching for the other men on Monday.
