ANDERSON, Ind. — Police scoured a southwest side neighborhood Sunday evening in search of suspects wanted for reportedly waving a handgun during a fight.

No one was shot during the incident that occurred in the 2400 block of Fairview Street around 8 p.m. Sunday, Anderson police said.

One of the suspects had fled on foot and much of the search centered around the Fairview Park Apartments near West 25th Street and Madison Avenue.

Police with dogs searched woods and nearby streets. A Fairview Park apartment resident reported seeing a man with a handgun run into the brush shortly before police arrived.

A handgun found, and believed involved in the incident, had been stolen, according to police reports.

Around 9 p.m., Anderson police confirmed that a suspect had been taken into custody.

In regards to the fight, about five or six people were taken in for questioning.

At one point, about 8:35 p.m., police shifted the search in response to a report of an attempted burglary in a home in the 700 block of West 24th Street but that report may have been unfounded.

Joining Anderson police in the search were Madison County Sheriff’s deputies and Indiana State Police troopers.
