Anderson police arrest northern Indiana fugitive

ANDERSON — At about 6 a.m. Monday, members of the Anderson Police Department served a search warrant, subsequently arresting two people for manufacturing and possessing methamphetamine at the Economy Inn, 2400 Scatterfield Road.

Subjects charged included:

♦ Andrew J. Kneller, 39, of Silver Lake, on charges of Class B felony dealing methamphetamine and Class D felonies illegal drug lab, possession of methamphetamine and maintaining a common nuisance

♦ Kaylah N. Hall, 25, of North Webster, on charges of Class D felonies illegal drug lab and possession of methamphetamine

About 10 p.m. Sunday, Anderson police were contacted by law enforcement officials in Kosciusko County regarding the possibility that Kneller, who was wanted on several felony warrants, was staying at the Economy Inn, according to an Anderson Police Department press release. Kneller was said to be accompanied by female friend Kaylah Hall. Anderson police were able to confirm that both were staying at the local hotel.

Kneller was wanted on warrants for failing to appear on charges related to methamphetamine, as well as a related parole violation. In 1996, Kneller was sentenced to 20 years in the Indiana Department of Correction for aggravated battery and two counts of intimidation. After serving 13 years, he was paroled in 2009. On Saturday, officials in Kosciusko County had attempted to apprehend Kneller subsequent to a traffic stop, but he fled and eluded capture.

According to officials in Kosciusko County, Kneller was believed to be in possession of a handgun, as well as recently having attempted to obtain an assault rifle.

At about 6 a.m. Monday, the Anderson Police SWAT team arrived at the Economy Inn. After evacuating guests from nearby rooms, officers made contact at Room 255, according to the release. Upon knocking and announcing their police presence, Kneller opened the door. Both he and Hall were immediately taken into custody without resistance.

“That’s an unusual call,” said APD officer Chad Boynton, who was with the SWAT team on the raid. “We don’t normally get something like that. Obviously, we have to worry about other guests at the hotel. Anytime we’re dealing with the meth lab, we have to deal with the volatility of the materials.”
