Pendleton police seek suspect in armed carjacking, robbery

PENDLETON, Ind. — Police in Pendleton are looking for person accused of carjacking a man at gunpoint and forcing him to withdraw money from three different banks.

The victim reportedly got into his car Wednesday night, only to have a gun pressed into his side by a man hiding in the backseat. He told police the armed man ordered him to throw his cell phone out the window, then navigated him to three different ATMs in the Pendleton area.

As ordered, the driver withdrew money from his accounts — about $1,000 altogether, said police chief Marc Farrer.

The victim said he was then told to drive southeast of town, where the alleged robber jumped out and ran into the woods. The victim drove back to where he’d ditched his cell phone and called 911.

Just before 11 p.m. Wednesday, Pendleton officers were dispatched to the site of the alleged carjacking, in the 3100 block of W. Angle Road. Madison County Sheriff’s deputies and police from Ingalls assisted in establishing a perimeter.

K-9 units were also called in from Elwood to search for the suspect, who’s described as male, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and black football gloves.

No arrests have been made and the case is still under investigation.
