School bus crash victims out of hospital

Neither bus driver cited by police

ANDERSON — Neither driver was cited in Monday's accident involving two Anderson Community Schools buses that sent four students to the hospital.

ACS Interim Superintendent Tim Edsell said all four high school students were treated at the local hospitals and released Monday. None of them had to spend the night at the hospital.

"We're very relieved that everyone is OK," Edsell said.

Anderson Police Department spokesman Joel Sandefur released the names of the bus drivers Tuesday. He said neither Claudene Waller, 50, the driver of bus No. 311, or Jack White, 71, driver of bus No. 318, received citations for the accident.

White's bus crashed into the back of Waller's bus after White failed to notice Waller's bus had come to a stop due to a ambulance driving in the area.

The impact caused most of the students to hit their heads or necks on the bus seat in front of them, leading to some of them complaining of pain.

Those who complained were checked out and taken to the hospital as a precaution. Joe Cronk, head of transportation at ACS, said Monday he didn't think any of the injuries were serious.

Edsell said he didn't think any further action against the bus drivers would be coming from the school system.
