FRANKTON, Ind. — A standoff between police and a Frankton man Thursday morning ended peacefully, but the man was arrested.

The still-unnamed man faces a charge of intimidation, according to Madison County Sheriff's Department Maj. Brian Bell.

According to Bell, the man threatened a police officer at about 10 a.m. after a domestic dispute in a private residence in the area of Sigler and Park streets. The situation escalated into a standoff and Frankton police nearly had to call an MCSD SWAT team to the scene.

Bell said  the man turned himself in peacefully before the situation escalated further.

Bell said the incident is still being investigated and more information will be released on Friday.

As a precaution, authorities placed Frankton Elementary School in the 1300 block of East Clyde Street on lockdown at about 8:20 a.m., said administrative assistant Karen Richardson.

Despite the nearby emergency, she said all students remained in their classes and school proceeded normally.
