Don G. Townsend

COLUMBUS — Don Garrett Townsend was born Dec. 1, 1930, to May and Harry Forrest Townsend. He lived many places where his father was stationed in the Army. He was born in the Philippine Islands and graduated from Punohou High School in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Mr. Townsend died Sept. 21, 2006, at 9:10 p.m.

At the University of Illinois he earned a bachelor of science degree in metallurgical engineering before serving in the Army for two years, mostly in Germany. He later earned a master’s degree in business at Ball State University.

In 1955 he married Dorothy Leeper in York, Pa., and they moved to Anderson, where he worked for Delco Remy Division of General Motors. After retiring he enjoyed 12 years in Green Valley, Ariz., before moving back to Indiana. He lived his last four months at Four Seasons Retirement Center in Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; their daughter, Diana T. (Chris) Manners of Columbus; their son, Douglas Townsend of Sidney, Ohio; and a sister Harriet of Phoenix, Ariz.

He appreciated the caring staff at Four Seasons, and also the extra attention of Hospice of South Central Indiana, Inc. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana, 2626 17th St. Columbus, IN 47201.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Four Seasons Chapel, 1901 Taylor Road, Columbus, with the Rev. Norie Erickson officiating.

Visitation will be one hour before service Saturday.
