Editorial: Fall brings out Madison County's natural beauty

You'll frequently hear folks from Madison County talking about beautiful destinations they'd like to visit — or have visited.

Every local resident knows somebody who goes south or west for the winter. Or someone who vacations during the summer in Michigan. Or someone who loves the northeast. Or someone who goes to Brown County every fall.

We sometimes forget how beautiful it is right here at home. Every season has its own aesthetic characteristics. But none are more beautiful than fall in the Madison County area.

Already, the leaves are turning red, orange and yellow as we approach mid-October. Farmers are clearing the fields of amber waves of grain, giving open vistas to woods painted by nature's brilliant strokes.

The problem is that when you're surrounded by it every day, you tend not to notice. Perhaps you know someone who lives in a mountainous area and takes the grandeur of the peaks and slopes for granted.

It can be the same way for Hoosiers. The leaves don't change color all at once, and, unless you take the time just to look around, you might not appreciate the autumn.

This is particularly true for busy people — most Madison County residents are. You're thinking about the kids, about work, about taking care of things around the house as you zoom through the countryside with nature fairly begging to be noticed.

Take a half hour for a walk down a country road or to go to a pumpkin patch or take a leisurely drive through the countryside. Clear your mind. Soak in the beautiful tableau. You'll feel invigorated and reconnected with nature. It will be good for your mind, body and soul.

Fall is a great time to live in Madison County. Don't forget it.

In summary Take time to appreciate the beauty of Madison County this fall.
