Editorial: Hoosiers need help, use the surplus

A full-time job at $16 an hour is needed to pull people out of poverty, and there are very few of those out there or even on the horizon.

People are being squeezed intolerably, while the Neros in the Statehouse fiddle away. Having a surplus is fine as long as the state is meeting its obligation of taking care of the poorest among us. Indiana is not even coming close, which means its surplus stands as a symbol of supreme indifference to Indiana residents’ needs.
