Harrison College’s Anderson, Muncie campuses to merge

Students will shift to Anderson or go online

ANDERSON, Ind. —  Students attending Harrison College’s Muncie campus will soon have to make a drive to Anderson or move to online coursework to complete their degrees.

The Muncie location will be closing June 15 at the conclusion of the spring quarter to merge with the Anderson campus that currently serves a little over 200 students.

In a press release issued by Harrison College on Tuesday, President Jason Konesco said Muncie’s enrollment of around 150 just isn’t large enough to keep the 16,680-square-foot facility open.

According to the press release, Harrison College has identified cost savings and resource realignments across the board to “strengthen the delivery of the learning experience and the institution overall.”

“We are realigning our core competencies and offerings to help ensure the educational programs we offer are relevant and meet our students’ needs in today’s job market,” Konesco said.

Charlene Stacy, president of the Muncie and Anderson campuses, said staff will be meeting with Muncie students individually to plan a smooth transition.

“Every student is on a different path ...,” she said. “We want to find what works best for them.”

She added both locations offer the same courses and that much of the staff is already split between the two, so students should be familiar with instructors when they shift to Anderson.

With Anderson so close and the availability of online learning, Konesco said, Harrison believes Muncie students will be able to continue their education “with minor adjustments.”

“The right path might be online or at the Anderson campus,” Stacy said. “Most students now take a combination.”

Academic staff members will contact students this week to schedule one-on-one meetings about their options.
