She is the daughter of Eugene and Mattie Johnson of St. Louis, Mo., and the granddaughter of the late Vivian Johnson and Nat Johnson, Anderson.

Red Gold announces scholarship winner

ELWOOD — Stephanie Beck has been named the 2013 Red Gold Food Science Scholarship Award recipient.

She is the daughter of Steve and Donna Beck of Wabash. Beck is currently working toward her bachelor’s degree from Purdue University, majoring in food science and double minoring in food and nutrition, and organizational leadership supervision. She is expected to graduate in May 2015. She participates in Purdue University Food Science Club, Tomahawk Leadership Honor Society and a food science mentoring program.

She is currently working as product development intern at the Red Gold Corporate Headquarters, located in Elwood.

The Red Gold-Purdue Food Science Scholarship is awarded to a Purdue University student, with a strong aptitude for a career in food science. Along with the scholarship, Red Gold rewards the recipient with a paid internship at one of its state-of-the-art food processing facilities, and hands-on experience in its product development lab.

Fettig graduates from William Woods

FULTON, Mo. — Elwood resident Caroline Fettig graduated May 11 from William Woods University in Fulton, Mo., with a bachelor of science degree.

Dewitt earns degree from Manchester

NORTH MANCHESTER — Kaity DeWitt of Anderson received her bachelor of science degree in psychology from Manchester University. She earned this degree in three years and has been accepted into the master’s program at the University of Arkansas where she will begin her studies in the fall.

DeWitt is a 2010 graduate of Pendleton Heights High School and is the daughter of Wendell and Pam DeWitt of Pendleton.

AFT awards five scholarships

ANDERSON — The Anderson Federation of Teachers recently awarded scholarships to the following students.

Sydney Marie Hunt of Anderson High School received the $1,500 AFT Education Scholarship. She is the daughter of Jennifer and Gregory Hunt.

Joan Mercer, an English teacher who helped organize the the orientation, said the mentor program, which has been in place for several years, has been effective in new students make the high school transition.
