Patty weaves AU talent together

ANDERSON — Nationally known gospel artist Sandi Patty is heading up an all-star group of performers, all with roots to Anderson University, for "Woven Threads: Celebrating A Musical Legacy of Anderson University."

Artists include Patty, Bill and Gloria Gaither, Jon McLaughlin, Sidewalk Prophets, Jeff Owen (from Tenth Avenue North), Christa Wells and Alanna Story. Two concerts are set for 4 and 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22. The shows will be at the York Performing Arts Center, 1015 E. Fifth St.

Patty graduated from AU and lived in Anderson until 2009 when her husband, Don Peslis, took a job in Oklahoma City. She was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2004.

"It's ALWAYS good to be home and I cannot WAIT to be back in Anderson in just a few weeks," Patty wrote in an email. She also answered a few questions about the concerts.

THB: How is the family and life out “West?”

Patty: We are loving Oklahoma City. It honestly reminds us so much of Indiana. Don is enjoying being on the pastoral staff at Crossings Community Church. So much of what I do is traveling, singing, and meeting people that I can live anywhere there's an airport – although of course we miss all our friends in Indiana!

THB: “Woven Threads” is set for Sept. 22. Tell us how this all came about.

Patty: You know, I was talking to my friends at Anderson University last year about the amazing musical heritage of AU – past, present and future. We got to talking about all these incredibly talented and successful musicians and began to wonder what it would be like if we could get everyone together for one special night celebrating the university.

They asked me if I could help host something like that, and I was honored to be asked. My team and I reached out to some of my friends and so many graciously agreed to be a part of the night – and not only that, but to be a part of a recording of the night to be released as a CD in 2014.
