Kirkpatrick makes it past third round in national spelling bee

ANDERSON, Ind. — Anderson’s Joseph Kirkpatrick made it past the third round of the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee. Kirkpatrick correctly spelled dudgeon.

In the vocabulary section, Kirkpatrick correctly said that another word for abnegation is renunciation.

In round two, Kirkpatrick correctly spelled rejoneador, and, in the vocabulary, said a Croesus is very rich.

The semifinals will be held Thursday starting at 2 p.m. The finals will be held later Thursday at 8 p.m. ESPN will broadcast the finals live.
