PENDLETON, Ind. — Glad for the chance to keep her seat, Amy McGinnis was the winner of the South Madison School Corp. District 4 race Tuesday.

The incumbent, McGinnis captured 64 percent of the vote against challenger Larry Higgins.

“I still get to be with South Madison kids,” she said. “I still get to be their voice.”

McGinnis said she’d like to continue traveling school board meetings to help provide a chance for different parents to attend and “really work on technology and bringing it to all our kids.”

She said there are a lot of issues out there that need to be addressed in the future and added she wants to keep an open-door policy for any concerns and suggestions.

With heavy involvement in the organization People Against Impaired Driving (PAID) and a long battle with pneumonia, Higgins said he wasn’t able to run the race at full strength.

He added McGinnis has “done a good job and will continue to do so” and that he has plans to run for Madison County Council again in the future.
