Isabel Society serving up 'Harvest Feast'

ANDERSON, Ind. — “Harvest Feast” is the theme of the Isabel Society’s annual autumn event set from noon to 2 p.m. at the Harter House, 600 Main St.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the Harter House or by calling 642-7600. The general chairs for the event are Isabel Society board members Darlene Stroud and Deanna Yancey.

Proceeds from this special fall fund-raising event support the various projects for the residents of Harter House and Vermillion Place. Some of the projects have included a retractable awning over the deck at Vermillion Place, the refurbishing of lounges and common areas for the residents as well as the installation of new dining room ceiling and lights, microwaves and apartment carpet.

The food fare includes a buffet consisting of Chicken Spread Log, Garden Veggie Pizza, Cranberry Waldorf Salad, Cowboy Caviar, Date Nut Yummies, and Pumpkin Pie Square Squares. Larry and Nancy Mechem will provide the musical entertainment featuring a medley of tunes ranging from the 1930s to today.

Those attending will receive a copy of the recipes, a sampling is included here:

Chicken Spread Log

Mix all ingredients and shape into a log. Serve with crackers or party breads.

Cranberry Waldorf Salad

Combine cranberries with marshmallows, sugar and water. Cover and chill overnight. Add apples, grapes, walnuts and salt. Fold in Cool Whip and chill. Yield: 8 cups

Pumpkin Pie Squares

Combine flour, oats, brown sugar and butter. Mix until crumbly using a hand mixer on low speed. Press into ungreased 9 x 13 pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Set aside.

Combine ingredients and mix well. Pour over crust and bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.

Combine nuts, sugar and butter. Mix until crumbly. Sprinkle over filling and bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes. Cool and cut into squares.
