Sandi Patty returning 'home'

Singer returns 'home' to perform with ASO

Contemporary Christian singer Sandi Patty will return to Anderson this weekend for a performance at the Paramount Theatre.

Patty will perform with the Anderson Symphony Orchestra for its Valentine’s Concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Richard Sowers is conducting the concert, where the ASO and Patty will perform some of her favorite songs from Broadway musicals.

The Grammy and Dove award-winning songstress said it’s been a long time since she’s performed with the Anderson orchestra and a reunion is long overdue.

“I love any time I get to work with the symphony,” she said. “Everyone is creating music at the same time. It’s all live music and for me, there’s just no greater musical experience than that.”

She’s performing some of her favorite songs from Broadway musicals, including “Send in the Clowns” from “A Little Night Music” and a medley from “The Sound of Music.”

Dana Stone, ASO executive director, said Patty hasn’t performed with the orchestra since she’s been with the symphony. She said she can’t wait to meet the singer and hear her perform live.

“She’s a real big name, not just here, but nationwide, so it’s cool to have an artist of that caliber with our orchestra,” she said.

Of course, Patty is no stranger to Anderson. An alumna of Anderson University, she lived in the area for more than 30 years and her parents still reside here.

Patty said when she returns to Madison County, it’s a way to honor her roots and say thank you to the community that’s been important to her and her family.

The city has played a huge role in her faith and career, including her involvement in the Church of God Convention, which is leaving Anderson for the first time in almost 100 years to relocate to Oklahoma City, where Patty now lives.
