Gala raises at least $47,000 for Paramount

ANDERSON — Event organizers estimated more than $47,000 was raised for the Paramount Theatre Centre & Ballroom at Saturday's 23rd annual Festival of Trees Gala and Auction.

Event auctioneer Richard Symmes said the number was unofficial, but the amount would be confirmed this week.

"We got off to a slow start and had a good strong finish. It was an excellent gala and a good time was had by all," Symmes said. About 300 people attended.

The evening event concluded with auctions of approximately 50 specially designed Christmas trees and wreaths, as well as vacation condos and other items, with the proceeds from each going to theater operations to keep the Paramount in business. One tree, called "A Picture Perfect Christmas," designed by Marisa Kelly-Rigney, sold for $3,300.

"It's something very important year after year," Symmes said. "It's something we have to do to keep the Paramount going. It is the convention center of Madison County and we need to keep it strong."
