Mounds' Bronnenberg House to have open house

ANDERSON — The Friends of Mounds State Park invites the public to an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the historic Bronnenberg Home.

The Bronnenberg family was the third family to settle in Madison County, Indiana, and responsible for preserving the mounds complex located inside the park. They are also responsible for many contributions to the towns of Anderson and Chesterfield.

The Friends group is directly responsible for taking the restoration of the Bronnenberg house back to a date of 1897. The work that has been completed to date has been funded by donations and fundraising done by the group. Many donors have come forward in recent months to help in furnishing the house. A few of these include Conner Prairie Settlement, Walter Lemons of Anderson (a Bronnenberg descendant) and Charme Pettigrew of Carmel.

The home is open every Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. for tours. The home is nearly completed but still needs funding, textiles and building supplies for completion.

Light refreshments will be served.
