Mounds State Park to participate in National Trails Day

ANDERSON — Those wishing to partake in National Trails Day can visit Mounds State Park for a variety of scheduled interpretive activities on Saturday. Activities are free of charge and are scheduled as follows:

• 9-3:30 p.m. Earn chances to win a park pass in the Litterbug Challenge by completing a “trash scavenger hunt” while picking up trash from the trails. Each full bag brought to the Nature Center by 3:30 p.m. will earn participants one entry into a drawing for the pass.

• 11 a.m. Time Travelers Trek. Join the naturalist on a journey through 2,000 years of history regarding natives, pioneers and the amusement park. The hour-long hike involves stairs. Meet at the Nature Center.

• 2 p.m. Special Places Hike. Join the naturalist for a hike featuring Mounds staff members’ favorite places within the park, both on and off trail. Meet at the Nature Center for this hour-long hike.

• 9 p.m. Not-so-spooky Trail Hike. Meet at the Camp Store for a fun and family-friendly 30-minute night hike.
