MIDDLETOWN — The Middletown Public Library is celebrating the success of another local published writer with a book-signing for Scott Vannatter. The event will be noon to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, July 13, at the library, 780 High St. Vannatter will autograph and sell copies "The Dead Sea," a collection of horror short stories that includes his story, "Sirens of the Dead Sea."
A 1976 graduate of Shenandoah High School, Vannatter has always enjoyed reading and watching scary stories. He worked in the computer field for 23 years, before teaching special education for six years. He retired after a serious stroke in 2010 and took up writing.He has sold another short story, "A Word of Advice," for the collection "Under the Knife," and has six more stories sold and awaiting publication. Vannatter finds himself very comfortable with the horror genre. "I have read and watch a lot of horror books and films. And I do well with the short story length.
