Party in town center supports COPS

Party in town center supports COPS

ANDERSON — It’s party time. Neighbors from all over town are invited to the citywide community party in Anderson Town Center Saturday afternoon. The first-ever event is designed to be a really big block party.

“It should be a really exciting day,” said organizer Kelly Taliaferro. “I just want a day where everyone can have fun, enjoy and be safe.”

The fun kicks off at noon in the Town Center at 12th and Meridian Streets in downtown Anderson. Activities run to 5 p.m. The entire family will find things to enjoy. Kids can check out the bounce house, face painting and fire house. The Under Dogs will provide live music. More than 40 vendors will offer food, crafts, information and more. There will be a dunk tank, a bike show, and demonstrations by K-9 and SWAT teams. There will also be a silent auction to raise funds for event host Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS).

“We’re raising money to put back into community policing,” said Taliaferro.

The COPS arm of the City of Anderson police department encompasses Neighborhood Crime Watch programs, the Senior Link program and the Student Resource Officer program.

Even before the party, motorcycles will be rolling out of Double T Leather, 3320 Columbus Ave. in Anderson, for an event ride. Registration starts at 10 a.m. with the donation of your choice. Then, kickstands go up at 11:30 a.m. as everyone heads for Anderson's Town Center. The free event is all about building community, and fundraising to support the COPS unit along the way.
