Hamburger High may reopen in April

Restaurant reportedly under new management

ANDERSON, Ind. — School’s back in session.

After closing in January, Hamburger High, the popular high school-themed restaurant at 21 W. 38th St., said in a post on its Facebook page it will reopen in April.

When it closed, Diana Basey, who opened the store in May 2011 with husband Tim, said the rising cost of those ingredients, including rising beef prices brought on by last summer’s drought, was a big factor.

The restaurant has traditionally featured a fast-food-like menu, with fresh ingredients and the majority of the items made from scratch on-site.

“If your food cost starts going up then your prices have to start going up,” she said. “Our business is pretty much based on beef product.”

She added that many fast-food chains have to “revamp” their menus to cope with rising costs, but “they have deeper pockets to wait out this spike.”

According to the restaurant’s Facebook page, the store will reopen under new management, with “several changes made, but every last bit of the quality.”

Those changes include making the restaurant more handicap accessible.

“We look forward to everybody coming back to enjoy our amazing burgers and friendly atmosphere,” read the post. “We hope people will enjoy coming here even more!”

In another post, the new owners hang the “help wanted” sign, asking interested people to visit its website, hamburgerhigh.com.

“Hamburger High is looking for friendly and hard working ladies and gentlemen to staff our wonderful and fun restaurant,” it reads.

A call to the store’s listed number was not answered.
