Lapel sets sights on championship

The Lapel Bulldogs enter the 2009-10 boys basketball season with hopes of competing for a sectional championship and possibly more.....more>>

  • Pendleton Heights handles Frankton, 61-28
Often a good indicator of a team’s strength is the number of its weapons.
That turned out to be the key factor for the Pendleton Heights girls basketball team here Saturday in a 61-28 victory over Frankton.

  • Filling roster holes Eagles' top priority
Coach Brent Brobston didn’t lose a lot from 2008-09 to the 2009-10 season from a quantity standpoint, but quantity doesn’t always equal quality. Jon Gardner would be the quality that he lost from last seasons 8-14 finish.

  • Tigers take Elwood Super 6
Alexandria finished up an undefeated day on the mat by slugging Elwood 54-21 at the Super Six season opening tournament Saturday.

  • Panthers hold off Lions, 53-59
When you’re dealing with a young roster, you expect highs and lows. For Elwood girls basketball coach Candice Williams, Friday night’s 53-49 victory over Liberty Christian provided both.

  • Cougars slip by Arabians
The Pendleton Heights Lady Arabians fell to 1-2 and 0-1 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference with a tough 50-48 loss at the hands of the Greenfield Central Lady Cougars.

  • County grapplers look for strong run
Sam Bennett, Mason Berryman and Mason Todd begin their quest to return to Indianapolis this week.
But the start of the high school wrestling season doesn’t signal their return to the mat. Far from it, in fact.

  • Broncos aim to continue success
They say that success breeds success.
They also say that hard work breeds success.
If 30 victories and a pair of sectional titles the past two seasons serve as any indicator, then the Daleville boys basketball program could be poised to build upon a winning foundation in the 2009-10 season.

  • Experienced guards lead Madison-Grant
There will be several fresh faces taking the court this year for Madison-Grant’s boys basketball team, who lost eight of last season’s players to graduation. But two familiar sights will return to the backcourt in senior guards Jordon Cornelious and Tyler Clevenger.

  • Liberty Christian looking toward the journey
Liberty Christian boys basketball coach Jason Chappell may just be the rare combination of a realistic optimist. Chappell’s Lions squad returns just one starter from a year ago. Among the graduation losses was all-everything player Michael Horner. Chappell knows that the early going may be rough but he’s looking forward to the challenge that comes with a young squad.
