Arabians win County net title with 5-0 shutout

Lady Arabians top Eagles for County net title

FRANKTON, Ind. — An intriguing battle awaited and there was no indication what the team scores would be.

Considering the Frankton Eagles had home court advantage, the Pendleton Heights Lady Arabians came hungry for the Madison County tennis title. Pendleton aced a 5-0 win and came away with the crown.

At No. 1 singles Emma McCardwell took the win against senior Alexys Rastetter 6-3, 6-0.The match revealed extensive baseline coverage as nearly each point produced the excitement of long rallies.

Rastetter could not convert in the second set and McCardwell pounced six straight games to close out the set. For Rastetter, previously coming off an undefeated season, it may be disheartening to not reign in her last year as a Lady Eagle, though she gave everything to break second set.

Junior Carly Wilson delivered full court coverage and used strategic net play against Lucy Browning to end a 6-4, 6-1 victory.

Browning threw everything at Wilson, but could not catch up. It was a fantastic display of tennis and defiance in the first set and half.

Freshman Sam Hammel took the win against Emma Busch 6-1, 6-2. Hammel stepped on court knowing her range and sticking to it throughout the match. Busch hung on but struggled to recover.

In doubles, the No. 1 duo Kayleigh and Aubrey Corn defeated Gabby Ochoa and Abby Morgan 6-2, 6-1. Though it may be a twin thing, the Corn sisters were in sync on the court covering one another in every point. Brandy Stoker and Haley Augsburger won No. 2 doubles 7-6, 6-2 against Shelby Greene and Macee Sandefur. Stoker and Augsburger delivered the final point for Pendleton to sum up championship title.

"Everyone fought very hard today and displayed excellent tennis" said PH coach Royce Hammel.

Pendleton Heights (5-0) will next play on Tuesday at New Castle. The Eagles are also on the road Tuesday for their next action, visinting Jay County.
