---- — LAPEL — The Class 2A No. 17 Lapel Bulldogs’ boys basketball team played 10 players against Anderson Prep and eight of them scored at least eight points in last night’s 94-34 rout in Lapel’s gym.

The Jets (0-11) kept the game respectable in the first quarter. They hit the first basket of the game and even after a 10-0 spurt by the home team it still ended up being 20-10 after the first eight minutes.

The Bulldogs (7-5) outscored their opponent 64-24 the rest of the way en rout to the blowout win.

Mitchell Richardson led the way for Lapel with 10 first-quarter points and Noah Hendershot followed with six points of his own.

APA’s Noah Long scored five of his team’s 10 points in the opening quarter by hitting both of his shots with one coming from 3-point range.

Lapel coach Jimmie Howell went to his bench early and often without much of a drop-off. Richardson’s younger brother JonRoss, a freshman post player, lit up the scoreboard by propelling his team with seven of his team’s 22 second-quarter points. He single-handedly outscored the APA team 7-6 in that period.

It seemed to be a different player raising his level of play each quarter with Bailey Partington showing off his moves around the basket in the third period of play. He hit 3-of-4 from the field and both of his free-throws for all eight of his points in the game.

Despite the game being well out of hand by the third quarter, the Jets’ Long busted out again hitting all three of his shots with another coming from long range for seven of his team’s 14 points in the quarter.

Kamron Herrington led the fourth quarter surge by hitting 4-of-6 shots with all of them coming from beyond the three-point arc.

Mitchell Richardson led Lapel with 18 and was followed by Hendershot and Herrington’s 14 apiece. Brady Cherry led his team with eight boards in the game.

Long led his team with 12 points followed by Zach MacGilvray’s eight points for APA. D’Eric Whitt collected a game-high 10 caroms.

The Bulldogs (7-5) are scheduled to visit Frankton tonight for a Madison County Tournament rematch. APA is 0-11 and will host Columbus Christian tonight.
