INDIANAPOLIS — Class 2A Scecina scored 29 unanswered points to defeat the Elwood Panthers 29-13 Friday at Samuel T Kelly Athletic Field at Howe High School.
Elwood took a 7-0 lead on a 17-yard pass from QB Alex Mireles to London Leavell in the first quarter.
The Panthers went up 13-0 in the second on a 1-yard run by RB Sammy Mireles. The senior had 154 yards on the night to begin his quest for the state career rushing title. He needs to average 217 yards per game to reach that goal.
Scecina is ranked No. 5 in 2A in this week’s state poll.
Frankton 36, APA 28
FRANKTON — Nick Clark rushed for over 200 yards and Colton Waymire rushed for over 100 as the Eagles topped Anderson Preparatory Academy.
The Eagles took the lead for good at 21-14 with 9:06 remaining in the first half and held on for the victory.
Clark rushed the ball 30 times for 208 yards. He scored touchdowns twice and added a two-point conversion. Waymire run 16 times and finished with 110 cards. He also scored a pair of TDs.
For the Jets, D’Andre Patterson carried 16 times for 180 yards. He notched a pair of touchdown runs and converted a two-point attempt. Caston McConnell scored a TD for APA and amassed 40 yards on seven totes.
Alexandria 31,Wes-Del 6
ALEXANDRIA — The Alexandria Tigers opened the season with a win over Wes Del.
The Tigers grabbed a 10-0 lead in the first quarter with a safety as the center snap sailed over the Wes Del punter’s head into the end zone. Soon after, Blaze Kelly hit Drew Johnson with a 31-yard touchdown pass. The two point conversion was good and Alex led 10-0.
In the second quarter, Kelly threw a 21 yard touchdown pass to Mason Hoke on a 4th-and-12 play for an 18-0 halftime lead.
Devin Gill gave Wes Del hope with a 55-yard, third-quarter touchdown run but the Tigers’ Bryan Carter returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown and 24-6 lead. Carter closed out the scoring with a 31-yard touchdown run in the fourth.
