I must comment on The Herald Bulletin editorial on Aug. 20, praising Congressman Pence for pushing the “comprehensive” energy plan through Congress. Congressman Pence admits that the high cost of oil and gasoline is severely hurting the American people. During a meeting at Anderson University recently, Congressman Pence also touted this energy plan.

However, he reluctantly admitted this “comprehensive” energy plan does not address the issue of speculation, which accounts for most of the runup of oil and gasoline prices. He also stated he would not support provisions for reining in the speculators and speculation was good for the American economy. It is obvious Congressman Pence takes his orders from big business, special interest groups and the wealthy. It is time for a new congressman who will represent the American people. I am also disappointed in The Herald Bulletin for not investigating the provisions of this plan and taking the word of Congressman Pence.
