Little progress seen since Nov. ’07
My Nov. 15, 2007, letter to the editor described armed robberies on the west side of Anderson and deterioration along Nichol Avenue. At that time, Kris Ockomon was a city detective, who subsequently became the mayor of Anderson. Seven additional armed robberies have occurred, with zero arrests. The deserted gas station, McDonald’s, Las Fajitas, Cilantro’s, a shopping center with empty parking areas and unsightly weeds and grass growing through the pavement do not invite new businesses.
Mayor Ockomon claimed 500 jobs from the Hoosier Park Casino. He has zero credit for this business; however, he did sell them the $2 million land they needed for $750,000. His decisions to-date (and they will continue) are payback to his Democratic political cronies. Their management skills are rather suspect. Seems that Greg Graham is really the mayor. Such difficult problems, like management of the Animal Shelter, selective sidewalk repairs, Mr. Pepelea’s lawsuit, who to send to Japan, etc. Nestlé’s investment announcement, where our mayor said, “Anderson’s on the way up and good things are happening here.” Kindly explain what and how! Does he mean the two new Dollar General and Dunkin Donut stores? They will probably hire a total of 20 people, at minimum wage. I can see our mayor at the store openings now — cutting ribbons.
Last thought: The school system stinks, in terms of quality education. What is the educational/academic history on Tobi Jones, Teddy Bohnenkamp and the other board members? Mr. Mayor, in my opinion, your report card grade is about D-.
