Letter: Gun ban could have bad consequences

(A letter I hope I never have to write)

My dear neighbor,

Awakened by the sound of gunfire coming from your house shortly after midnight I called 911. I crept to the backyard fence and helplessly watched as three thugs beat you. I was only 20 feet way but could do nothing to help you. When they finished with you I heard the screams of your wife and daughter as they had their way with them. Before I was forced to give up my guns I would have helped you. (They kept theirs.)

Tears ran down my cheeks as I prayed for the police to arrive. The 15 minutes they took seemed like an eternity! As I watched them carry out the bodies I felt shame because I was relieved they had chosen your house instead of mine. I will miss you, my good neighbor, and will be forever be sorry I could do nothing to help you.
