Letter: Animals should be protected from people

To the 42 percent of you people who think animals are animals and people are people, better open your eyes.

Those animals are the ones that carried you across the United States so that you could pan for gold; those animals are the ones that carried the furs down from the mountains so you could have a coat or fancy hat. Those animals are the ones that help the blind and the handicapped to have better lives. Those animals are the ones that give you back more love than they ask for. Those animals are the ones that give old and lonely people a reason to live because everyone else is too busy to care. Those animals are the ones that you set down to at dinner to fill your fat bellies with steak and chops.

Animals are animals, yes, but they do not deserve to be mistreated or abused. They are here to help, feed and love us. So should they have protection from people who mistreat them? Yes they should, and I hope God has a special place in hell for those who mistreat them.
