What a beautifully warm day and what a great day for the city of Anderson on July 3.
The Anderson Town Center Park was renamed the Dickmann Town Center Park by Mayor Kevin Smith during a ceremony that was attended by an enthusiastic crowd.
Our mayor spoke of the contributions that Charles and Hazel Dickmann have made throughout their many years in Anderson and how appreciative he and the citizens of Anderson are for their many good deeds. Our mayor went on to share hope that others will step forward with their generosity for the future good of Anderson and its citizens.
Mr. Dickmann followed Mayor Smith's remarks with his own remarks, a copy of which I obtained and want to share. Mr. Dickmann's remarks follow:
"Hazel and I are indeed grateful to receive this high honor. Thank you, parks and recreation board superintendent Stephon Blackwell and your support group. Thank you, park board president Darin Foltz and your board members and staff. Thank you, Jack Keesling and Larry Davis for your leadership and strong support. Thank you, J.R. Builta and Sally DeVoe for your valuable assistance. In 2013 Hazel and I created the $100,000 Dickmann Town Center Park endowment fund to provide permanent financial support for future prosperity and well being of downtown Anderson and its people. I have had many high honors during my lifetime, but I will cherish this one the most because it came from my hometown. Thank you, Mayor Kevin Smith! Thank you, Anderson. Have a great day."
