Letter: Athletic Pool fundraiser supported by many

Onward Alliance wishes to thank everyone who supports our efforts to restore the Athletic Park swimming pool to its former glory. Community support will be critical in preserving and maintaining one of Anderson's most architecturally significant (and fun!) buildings.

Many thanks go to The Herald Bulletin for their coverage, and to Mayor Kevin Smith and his staff and employees for their support.

Our recent "Drive Through & Donate" fundraiser for the pool was a splendid success ... and there are many folks to thank for it. Texas Roadhouse manager Bob Kirk and his wonderful young staff worked diligently and did a fabulous job. Their tasty food and great organizational talents made this effort both fun and profitable.

Special thanks also go to Union Locals 662, 663, 1963 and 957 for partnering with us on this fundraiser. And finally, we must thank all who bought tickets or gave donations.

This generosity from our community is heartwarming. With the Anderson community's continuing support, the Athletic Pool can be saved. In this first fundraiser alone, we more than doubled our original donation projections. We will be depositing more than $800 to our account at the Madison County Community Foundation. All these funds will be going toward the rehabilitation, restoration and maintenance of the pool, a local treasure that is listed on Indiana Historic Landmarks Foundation's most endangered list of significant structures.

Those wishing to make tax-deductible donations to our efforts may send a check written to: The Madison County Community Foundation, 33 W. 10th St., Suite 600, Anderson, IN 46016. Please designate your donation to The Athletic Pool Project (TAPP).
