Letter: Roe v. Wade should be repealed

President Obama recently addressed the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. He stated, "In the United States of America, every child should have every chance in life, every chance at happiness, and every chance at success."

It's interesting that in March 2003, then-Illinois state Senator Obama chaired the committee that considered the Born-Alive Infants Protection Bill (SB 1082), which he voted to kill. According to the National Right to Life Committee, the state legislation that Obama voted against is almost identical to the federal legislation that protects children who survive an abortion that became law in 2002.

"Raising a healthy next generation is both a moral obligation and a national imperative" Obama said in his proclamation. "That is why my administration is building awareness, strengthening responses to child abuse, and translating science and research — what we know works for kids and families — into practice"

According to Planned Parenthood's latest report for fiscal year 2012-2013, women who aborted their unborn children at a Planned Parenthood-affiliated clinic totaled 327,166.

Speeches like this are nauseating to me. If you really want to give every child a chance in life then get Roe v. Wade repealed. Protect the unborn that cannot protect themselves. Mr. Obama refers to science and research. Science and research clearly show that an unborn child is not just a fetus but has life.

Drop the hypocrisy, and do what's morally right. Protect the unborn and repeal Roe v. Wade. Our abortion policy in this country has been one of infanticide.

Kids are getting ready for school, corporations are reviewing their semi annual reports and — yes — many seniors are filling out their absentee ballots. Some are voting because they are fed up with the status quo, some out of habit and some because they feel it is their civic duty.

The lost art of Angkor Wat in Cambodia. The terra cotta men of China. Vincent Van Gogh was a failing, starving artist in his time. Now his works are some of the world’s most valued. Madison County has a prize of its own that should be recognized in its time.
