Letter: Indy 500 had strong Anderson presence

What a day for Anderson at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway's 500-mile race! Sitting in the pole position was Ed Carpenter, son-in-law of Alberta and Todd Pettigrew of Anderson. Ed is married to Heather. He led the most laps of the race — 37.

Jon McLaughlin, son of Anderson residents Tammy and Mike McLaughlin and grandson of Marian and Keith McLaughlin, sang "God Bless America."

"The Star-Spangled Banner" was sung by Sandi Patty. Anderson resident Will Avila joined Indianapolis Colts coach Chuck Pagano (who will be at Anderson University when it hosts the Colts training camp this summer) in a helicopter, landing in Turn 1, to deliver the green flag to the official starter.

The "Greatest Spectacle In Racing" was one of the best days we have spent at the IMS track.
