Letter: Christians being persecuted worldwide

Christians are being severely persecuted worldwide. According to the International Criminal Court, Christianity has become the world's most persecuted faith. Christians are persecuted in 131 of the world's 193 countries per a Pew Forum study. That said, America has supported many groups doing much of the persecution.

The degradation of Christian women living in the Islamic world continued in the month of June. In Syria, after an al-Qaida linked rebel group conquered Qusair, 15-year-old Mariam was kidnapped, repeatedly gang raped according to a fatwa legitimizing the rape of non-Sunni women by any Muslim waging jihad against Syria's government, and then executed. Al-Qaida led rebel force groups have reportedly vowed to continue their attacks on Christians as soon as the United States "liberates" the country from President Assad.

The Muslim Brotherhood, who the United States has supported, has incited their followers to attack Christian homes, shops, schools and churches throughout Egypt. Samuel Tadros, an Egyptian scholar with the Hudson Institute, has stated that these attacks are the worst violence against the Coptic Church since the 14th century.

As Christians, there are some things we can do in support of our persecuted brethren. First, pray for them. Second, be a voice for them. Write or call your U.S. congressmen on their behalf. Contact organizations involved in ministering to the persecuted church for information, and ways you can assist. Third, contribute financially to support persecuted Christians. There are organizations that support the persecuted church.

  • Letter: Constitution, laws being trampled Nancy Pelosi said, "When it comes to protecting the children I'm a lioness!" Too bad that doesn't include the babies who are ripped from the womb. How ironic to hear the progressive liberals talk of compassion for illegals while killing our own.
