ANDERSON — Four people have been arrested for their alleged roles in the shooting and attempted robbery of an Anderson man early Monday.
Arrested were:
— Tyler A. Campbell, 20, of the 1900 block of Norwood Place, Anderson.
— Darrah M. Lehman, 27, of the 2200 block of Raintree Place, Anderson.
— Joel D. Everman, 29, of the 2200 block of the Raintree Place, Anderson
— Keayon K.A. Scott, 18, of the 1700 block of East Red Fern Way, Anderson
Lehman, Everman and Campbell were being held on $35,000 late Tuesday.
Scott was being held on $50,000 cash bond. Prosecutors asked that his bond be set higher because he was on probation for carrying a handgun without a license and possession of marijuana when the attack happened.
According to a probable cause affidavit:
Lehman convinced the men to go to the home of Jackie Chapman in the 1900 block of Woodbine Drive at about 1:45 a.m. Lehman and Chapman live in the same neighborhood. Lehman told the men that Chapman had stolen property from her. If they went to his home, she told them, they could beat him up and steal drugs and money from his home.
Chapman, 37, told investigators a woman came to his door and they briefly talked. Shortly afterward, several men rushed the door and tried getting inside. Chapman slammed the door shut, but Scott fired about eight times through the door, striking Chapman once in the upper thigh.
Chapman was able to identify the getaway vehicle as belonging to Lehman and Everman, who live together. Everman, who was the driver, also claimed Chapman had stolen from them. Lehman told investigators Everman was also involved in planning the attempted robbery.
The four all admitted to their roles in the incident — including Scott to being the shooter, according to the affidavit.
Scott also faces a possible charge of possession of a controlled substance, a Class D felony punishable by six months to three years if found guilty. Madison County Jail officers found a plastic bag of 71 Xanax pills in his underwear during a book-in search, according to court papers.
Three others are also suspected of being involved in the attack, but they were not named in the court papers. They have not been arrested, but are still being investigated, said Sgt. William Casey, department spokesman.
Chapman could not be reached for comment on Tuesday. His injuries weren’t believed to be life-threatening.
Lehman and the three men all made initial court appearances Tuesday, but they have not been charged. Magistrate Stephen Clase approved a request from prosecutors for an extra three days to file formal counts.
According to court documents, prosecutors say each will likely face a Class A felony charge in connection to the shooting and attempted robbery. The felony carries a sentencing range of 20 to 50 years if convicted.
