9:06 p.m.: Endeavour makes rare nighttime landing

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — The space shuttle Endeavour and its crew of seven are back on Earth.

The shuttle swooped through the darkness to the illuminated runway at Kennedy Space Center in a rare nighttime touchdown Wednesday. The landing was a bit delayed because clouds had moved in at virtually the last minute.

The sky later cleared enough to satisfy flight controllers.

Less than one-fifth of all space shuttle flights have ended in darkness. Endeavour blasted off March 11. Its mission spanned 16 days and 6.5 million miles.
