8:55 p.m.: Couple injured in fire released from hospital

The Herald Bulletin

ANDERSON — The last of five family members who suffered smoke inhalation after fire swept through their rural Frankton home on Monday have been released from the hospital.

Katy Harrison Troxell, Community Hospital spokeswoman, said Carl Brinker, 52, and Hope Brinker, 38, were released Thursday. The couple’s three children, Christina Aylor, 9, Brandon Johnson, 6, and Elizabeth Williams, 16, were discharged Tuesday.

The family members suffered smoke inhalation after fire erupted in their single-story, three-bedroom home at 2034 W. 300N shortly before 3 a.m. The residence was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived, and the family escaped through a bedroom window.

Rob Amick, fire chief of the Frankton Volunteer Fire Department, said the residents were roused by the smell of smoke. There were at least four smoke detectors in the home, he said, but none worked.

Amick said the home is being considered a complete loss. Investigators believe a faulty electrical outlet in the family room caused the blaze.
