8:30 p.m.: Gary delegation unharmed in China quake



GARY, Ind. (AP) — Gary Mayor Rudy Clay and others from the city who are on a trip to China are unharmed following the severe earthquake that hit the country.

Clay sent a text message to his spokeswoman, Linda Key, after the quake hit. Clay and the delegation of city employees, educators and businesspeople were in Beijing when the earthquake happened Monday.

Clay’s message said no one from the delegation was hurt and that the quake was tragic.

The delegation is scheduled to return home on Sunday.
