HOOSIER PARK: Security inside and out

By Barrett Newkirk

ANDERSON — The single-floor casino at Hoosier Park makes security simpler, said Clint McKenzie, the facility’s operations manager.

Guests to the casino, which is slated to open June 2, will encounter security as soon as they enter the building, if not sooner in the parking lot, McKenzie said.

But he added that patrons shouldn’t be fearful.

“They’re not only here to protect our assets, but they’re also here to greet our guests,” McKenzie said.

Because no one under the age of 21 will be permitted to enter Hoosier Park, security at the door will be charged with checking IDs, he said, but uniformed security staff members will also roam the rows of slots.

Additional electronic eyes are placed through the facility in the form of about 500 surveillance cameras.

Ray Maurer leads Hoosier Park’s surveillance team. Other than saying cameras would be all over the casino, inside and out, he declined to give many details about how his department runs.

“We’re looking at employees, we’re looking at guests,” Maurer said. We’re looking at money, we’re looking at the property, we’re looking at safety.”
