INDIANAPOLIS — The Herald Bulletin’s special staff report “20 Burning Questions: Gas Prices” received a first-place award Saturday in the Indiana Associated Press Managing Editors 2007 newswriting contest.
The award, and four others won by The Herald Bulletin, were announced at the IAPME’s annual awards luncheon Saturday at the Sheraton in downtown Indianapolis. Other Herald Bulletin award winners were:
• Second place, newspaper design, Shana Noland, Allison Vondrell and former Herald Bulletin staffer Eric Neely.
• Second place, non-deadline sports reporting, all-area wrestling coverage, Rich Torres.
• Second place, editorial writing, Scott Underwood.
• Third place, deadline news reporting, coverage of the blizzard of February 2007, staff.
The gas prices special report, published in April 2007, was a six-page section devoted to an explanation of the factors affecting gas prices and how consumers could save money. The report also won a first-place award in the annual state Society of Professional Journalists contest. That award was announced last month.
The Herald Bulletin competes in Division 2 of the IAPME contest against other newspapers from across the state of similar circulation size.
