ANDERSON — A Markleville man faces a charge of child molestation for allegedly performing a sex act on a 4-year-old boy.
Prosecutors charged Bradley K. Stewart, 34, with child molestation, a Class A felony punishable by 20 to 50 years in prison if convicted. Stewart turned himself in at the Madison County Jail at about 1:45 p.m. Friday. He was released about a half-hour later after posting 10 percent of his $35,000 bond.
Stewart has not yet made an initial court appearance.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the charge:
The boy, now 7, told his mother’s current boyfriend that he shared a secret with Stewart.
Stewart, who dated the boy’s mother about three years ago, would occasionally baby-sit the boy when his mother worked, even after the two stopped dating each other.
The boy told his mother’s boyfriend that Stewart performed the sex act on him, and he would then perform the sex act on Stewart. The alleged incidents happened inside a camper where Stewart was living, which was parked on a friend’s property in Markleville. The acts allegedly occurred in November and December 2005.
The boy’s mother went to sheriff’s department investigators after learning about the incidents in November. Stewart declined through his attorney to speak to investigators.
